Blog Hiatus
Its been a few months since I last blogged on the DOM site. In the interim, MBD went out of business and Deproduction started looking into a collaborative purchase of the building as a tenant-owned, multi-tenant nonprofit center. That endeavor is dominating my time recently, but unfortunately doesn't make for a lot of pretty photos. ;)
in lieu of photos, here are some layouts of the building, as it could potentially be divided into sections for a host of wonderful partners for Denver Open Media and KGNU to work with.
Chicago
My fourth conference in the past 3 months, I’m in Chicago all this week, once again courtesy of the Knight Foundation. For the first two days, I’ve been at a collection of all the grantees from the Knight Journalism Program, a great group of people that is at least quadruple the size of the News Challenge grantees. It is impressive how much Knight invests in trying to support their grantees beyond just giving them cash.
Mr. Hiatt Goes to Washington
Brian and I flew out to DC for the ACM conference. As always, the ACM is a great chance to see some of our friends from across the Public Access and PEG sphere, and it was a great chance to announce and get some communication started about our new Grant program for CTCs and Public Access stations, thanks to our Knight Grant.
Audubon and Flobots
Today Deb, John, and I got up early to go start our video for the Audubon society, thanks to a Strengthening Partners Grant we worked with them to get from the Community First Foundation, aimed at helping them use new media to expand awareness of the important work they’re doing… work that goes well beyond bird-watching.Cute Nephew/Niece show is ON!
Maybe Deb's new nephew is cute, but can he say most of the alphabet? I didn't think so.
I got to spend a little time this weekend as well with the niece and nephew, and I have some pics to back up my big talk...
Video Test (Federico Pena)
This is just a test of the new capacity of our blogs to include embedded video. This is a little clip from Federico Pena.
Las Vegas, Day 1
Brian and I arrived in Vegas today for the announcements of Deproduction/DOM's Knight News Challenge award. Vegas is certainly on my short-list of least-favorite cities in the country... and an odd place for this convention, but the city sure is an experience to witness. We showed up early to shoot some video, and had the rest of the day to do with as we please. Neither of us are too big on gambling (or have much money to gamble with), so we found other ways to entertain ourselves.
