Exporting From Final Cut Pro 5.1Exporting From Final Cut Pro 5.1

Programs edited with Final Cut Pro, either on-site at DOM or on Producer-owned equipment, will need to be exported to a format that can be easily transcoded into MPEG2 for broadcast at DOM. The following process has been tested with Final Cut Pro version 5.1. Earlier versions may/may not be able to use the same process.

ExportExport

Once you have a completed timeline and are ready to export your program, do the following:

1. Go to File>Export>Using QuickTime Conversion

2. Complete the following dialogue box:

Save As: use a short name without spaces that you will recognize as your program and use a ".mov" extension.

Where: If you are completing this at DOM, you need to save this file to the INGEST folder/share. (If you are saving this for future transfer to DOM, save this to your local drive or attached firewire drive.)

3. Verify the QuickTime Movie encoding options BEFORE YOU PRESS SAVE by clicking the "Options" button. The settings should read as follows:

4. If the Compression DOES NOT show DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, click the "Settings" button to change.

Click the "Compression Type" button and select DV/DVCPRO - NTSC

Click "OK" to accept the settings.

5. After verifying the settings, click the "Save" button. A status indicator will pop up that will try to estimate the length of time involved. BE PATIENT.

6. Once the save is completed, close or hide Final Cut Pro and open "The DOMinizer" by double-clicking the icon

on the desktop or going to this link here  -Follow the instructions on the subsequent pages to add your program to the DOM Video Archive.

Final Cut settings

Do you really want the DV/DVCPRO - NTSC quality settings at "Medium" as the screen shot shows?

Medium Quality

I find the medium quality not as good as the original media. So I choose BEST, however the download time increases exponentially. Also the final file is larger. It's up to you, how long do you want to wait for the conversion? An hour program can take one hour to convert.
