Fire Safety and EvacuationFire Safety and Evacuation

In the event of a fire or discovery of smoke volunteers are to notify the nearest staff member immediately. No volunteer should risk personal safety by trying to put out fire.

Should the alarms go off, all volunteers should follow staff to the nearest exit and evacuate the building immediately. Exits are to be found via the front door and via the kitchenette door. No attempt should be made to finish current tasks or to find personal belongings. All volunteers should then wait with staff outside the building at the nominated meeting place (the MBD parking lot across the street) until the role has been called and they have been accounted for. No one should leave the vicinity until that time.

The building is locked Monday, Tuesday-Thursday after 6:00 pm, Friday after 12:00 noon, and Saturday. We need volunteers to sit at the front reception desk to help us let members in the building during our open studio hours when the doors are locked. If you are at the front door and no one lets you in after knocking, call 720.222.0159 and that should ring all of the phones inside our studios.

The building has an alarm system that will not only sound a alarm in the building, but it also generates a phone call to both the local police and the building's owner. There are only four Denver Open Media staff that have keys and alarm system codes to unlock & disable the system. You must always be accompanied by one of these staff members while in the building. If you are in the building on a Saturday, the upstairs of the building is on a separate alarm system, and if you venture up the stairs you will trigger that alarm, which will again call the police and the building owner. Please DO NOT go upstairs on Saturdays!!
