Producer Guidelines Producer Guidelines

Use of Denver Open Media's (DOM) production facilities is for the creation of non-commercial programs for cablecast on Denver's public access channels. Reservations for equipment and facility suites are nontransferable, and DOM members are expressly prohibited from seeking or accepting compensation from individuals in exchange for use of equipment or facility suites. Additionally, members are not to allowed to use the production equipment, editing suites, or the 3-camera studios for commercial purposes (unless paying commercial rates for non access use). This prohibition includes the production of all programming and the use of all equipment for free-lance purposes. Violations of this policy may result in the suspension or termination of production privileges. Members using the production facilities may not recover costs of production in that such costs were born by DOM.

All member productions created using DOM's equipment and facilities must air on DOM channels and contain the following credit: Produced (in whole or in part) through the facilities of Denver Open Media.

Permission to Use ContentPermission to Use Content

Producers who are airing content will be asked to give permission to not only air their piece on one of the three channels, programmed by our automation system, but also to share it with other noncommercial broadcast entities, and see it posted on the web.

Creative Commons/CopyrightsCreative Commons/Copyrights

Deproduction and DOM rent out studios and production equipment for commercial use at standard rates. Only non-commercial, public access, creative commons projects qualify for the use of equipment and studios at a discounted rate. If producers want to own exclusive copyrights to their work, or if they want to produce commercial content, it will not air on the Denver Open Media public access channels, and producers will pay commercial rates for use of studios and equipment.

Appropriate Content?

Hi, I am a volunteer teacher at the Colorado Free University and I was wondering if it would be appropriate to air my class on Denver Open Media? The class I am teaching is called "Science for Non-Scientists: Fascinating Facts of Nature". I am sincerely devoted to spreading scientific knowledge and I believe the best way to reach the masses is television. There is a fee of $51.00 to take my class but the entire fee goes to CFU for facilities, I do NOT make any money for teaching my class. I would not advertising my class but rather I would be providing viewers with the information you would learn in my class. I would not be advertising for CFU but I would need to thank them for the use of their facilities in my closing credits. I would like to know if this is acceptable before I go spending $75 on something I couldn't do.

your class on the air

Yes, you are more than welcome to air your class on our station. The only provision being that you cannot advertise the cost of your class or tell people they need to pay for it. All you can do is mention where they can get more information about the class if they are interested. If you have further questions please feel free to come by the station anytime we are open or you can call. 720-222-0260.
