Guidelines for Producers Soliciting Underwriting Support Guidelines for Producers Soliciting Underwriting Support

As stipulated by our contract with the City of Denver, any sponsorship or underwriting for public access member productions must be managed by Denver Open Media as the fiscal agent of the project/production. Following this process, all sponsorship funds are tax-deductible under DOM's 501(c)(3) status. Denver Open Media retains 25 percent of donated funds and releases the remaining 75 percent of sponsorship funds to the producer, provided that these funds are to be used ONLY to cover "expenses incurred in production, and do not constitute a profit or wage for the producer." If sponsorship funds surpass the expenses incurred in production, the producer is encouraged to purchase their own equipment or rent commercial equipment from Deproduction. Once the producer is no longer using their membership to subsidize the project's expenses, the producer is no longer required to funnel their funding through Denver Open Media as a fiscal agent, and the producer is free to negotiate underwriting and sponsorship agreements without involving DOM, provided that their show continues to abide by our content regulations and contains no commercial material.

Soliciting Support Soliciting Support

While Denver Open Media manages underwriting for theme blocks directly, underwriting support for individual shows is left to the show producers. To aid in this process and to ensure that Denver Open Media's underwriting policies are obeyed, we have developed a flexible underwriting form that producers can use to solicit underwriting sponsors. To download this form, please click on the attachment on the bottom of this page.
