What are some PSAs that you can remember?
Why do you think PSAs are important?
What makes a good PSA?
Show the students a few examples of PSAs (this can be done by viewing them online.) After viewing each PSA, ask the following questions:

Who is the target audience for the PSA?
Denver’s Only Public Access Station: Introduces Public Voting
For the first time in Denver’s history, public access television watchers will be able to vote and comment on their favorite shows. Denver Open Media (DOM), operators of Denver’s three public access television stations (Comcast 56, 57, and 219), are thrilled to introduce a revolutionary new feature called Short Message Service (SMS) that will change the way audience members watch television.
Public Access & CTC Grants
Public Access & CTC Grants
In 2008, Deproduction was the recipient of a Knight News Challenge
award aimed at a long-term goal of helping Public Access TV stations
and Community Technology Centers better cooperate as a nation-wide
user-driven network. At the core of this grant is the collection and
implementation of a set of open-source tools developed by DOM and
others aimed at expanding the role of the community and streamlining
much of the workload of a Public Access station or CTC.
